![]() ![]() I'm fairly sure the manager's actions weren't legal, but needless to say, this is no longer the charming elegant place I once adored. I asked him if they had Zelle, he said yes, and I sent him the extra $4 he demanded - even though, again, isn't tipping VOLUNTARY? He treated me like I was trying to steal thousands of dollars. He was mean and intimidating and threatening and hostile. Except, first, isn't tipping optional? And, second, I did tip some, but I have been a customer for years, I would come back again soon and tipped extra next time, but the manager absolutely did not care. I would have even made a special trip just to make things right.īut instead, the manager came over and humiliated me, boxed me in the corner, breathed down my neck, prevented me from moving, said that I could not leave until I paid more tip money. I couldn't tip very much this time because of the unexpected price hike, but I would have gladly tipped extra the next time I visited. I didn't think this would be a big deal, because I was a solo diner, they never brought me any napkins or water, I didn't even get to use the dang bathroom, and I ate very quickly because I had to get back home quickly for a long distance call. I had enough money to pay for all of the food and all of the tax but only a little bit for tip, since the menu prices had somehow increased overnight. Then they dropped the check! I guess I didn't look at today's menu, I already knew what I wanted and I ordered it verbally - since I'd looked at menu pictures posted yesterday AND i looked at their updated website specific for this location, I trusted that everything would go smoothly, but boy was I wrong. So I intentionally ate half of everything and asked for the other half to go. I like to make broth out of the bones & leg meat & leg skin, then make veggie stews. The only thing better than one amazing meal is two or three amazing meals. I intentionally ordered the whole peking duck platter because I wanted to take half home. Because it is cash only, I made sure to bring just enough, because it is very unsafe to carry too much, and I never carry my ATM card because of all the subway crimes these days since I live 90 minutes away (each direction), I need to be safe. I looked at hundreds of menus & pictures on multiple platforms, and even made sure to study the most updated menu on their website very carefully. All day long for the past week I was planning my dinner here. to many friends many times over the years, today everything came down crashing and burning. Although I'd been dreaming fondly of Shanghai You Garden, and spoke highly of it. I’ve been coming here since right after they opened a few years ago, but tonight was my first time back in almost two years since the beginning of the first lockdown. like you guys could have done so much better than a subpar outdated restaurant taking over More Please renovate the dining before opening up for service. If the owner is reading things, please make the change cuz the food is actually good there. it was just so dirty and didn't make it appetizing when we were dining there. I was so disappointed because the other side of the dining room was nice and this one idk where I was. Im glad you are expanding but at least fully renovate the space and make sure everything is up to code before serving customers. they did nothing about it but gave me another one. I even killed one that landed on my soy milk cup and showed it to the server. I have never had such a bad dining experience, they seated us in the back right corner.let me tell you I don't even know how many flies and fruit flies we counted. was actually that they were expanding since the food is delicious. They were busy as usual but they seated us on the other side of their new unfinished dining room. I am a frequent diner there and was there this Sunday with my family. I have never had a worse experience at shanghai You garden.
